First things first. You’d be surprised by how heartwarming it is for people with unusual names when you make the attempt (imperfectly!) at pronouncing it. It shows curiosity, respect, humility and an honest interest in human connection. It has instilled in me a commitment to call people what they want to be called - the name, the pronouns…anything that shows that I am genuinely invested in knowing them. Here’s the tutorial I recorded more than a decade ago to encourage people to get out of their comfort zone and try a new skill - saying my name!
